Volta Minute Repeater 18K Gold Pocket Watch
Pocket watches nowadays are just a reminder of a distant time before wristwatches ever existed and serve very little practical purpose.
Although some of the more special movements ever made were used in pocket watches and for some time even some wristwatches relied on these fantastic movements for reliability and precision.
Volta was founded by Maurice Ditisheim which eventually turned into the well known Vulcain watches brand.
The Ditisheims were a prominent dynasty of Swiss Watch industrialists immigrating first to Hegenheim, France and then to La Chaux-De-Fonds, Switzerland in 1858 to escape religious persecution, Jacques Ditisheim and his descendants were instrumental in the development of the Swiss watchmaking industry. The Ditisheims have links with other prominent industrialist families of Swiss watchmaking, including the Gallets, Eberhards, Vogels and Blums, forming a close inner circle which led the country's industry during the 19th and 20th centuries.
They were formidable watchmakers and contributed greatly to the advance of mechanical movements. This VOLTA minute repeater is a testament to their work.
This example here is a 55mm solid 18K gold case with a beautiful intricate guilloché finish on the outside and an engraved inside dust cover with many of the awards won.
It's in fantastic condition, the movement is absolutely perfect and working as it should, and hearing that minute repeater is just priceless...
