Roman 18K Gold Chronograph with Landeron 148

Regular price €800,00 Sale

Unknown brand Roman chronograph in 18K Gold with manual wind Landeron cal. 148.

Probably from the 60’s due to its large 38mm case which was very uncommon in the decades before.

Could have been a retailer rebadging which was a very common thing at the time.

The mission was to make a complicated watch at a sensible price.

The open case reveals an alloy fitting ring with high copper content that holds the Landeron calibre 148 in place. It was one of the most affordable chronograph movements of the time. The hollow lugs were made of folded and welded gold, and the case construction was designed to use as little precious metal as structurally possible.

This specimen was produced under private label for Roman. Closeup of the case back shows a Swiss 18K Helvetia hallmark.

Dial is in very good conditions, case has a fantastic size and shape with thick lugs. Looks very modern.

Movement is the workhorse Landeron 148, reliable, easy to service and plenty of parts available.

And a solid gold chronograph with a 38mm case should always be a very nice addition to any collection, specially on this price range.
